ISBN: 0-306-48191-X;
Language: English
Written for telecommunications engineers, this book describes mathematical methods for analyzing digital transmission system performance using hidden Markov models (HMM). Topics covered include discrete and continuous state HMM of communication channels, application of deterministic and statistical expectation-maximization algorithms to HMM parameters and information decoding, performance analysis of communication protocols and error-correction coding in channels with memory, and Markov arrival processes. MATLAB and the Signal Processing Toolbox are used to implement basic algorithms developed in the book and solve example problems.

Companion Software: A set of MATLAB code files and Simulink models are available on CD bound in the book. (The Communications System, DSP System, Signal Processing, Statistics, and System Identification Toolboxes are required.)
