Toyota Aims to Realize “Seasoned Driving” for Automated Driving System

Toyota’s research showed that an automated driving control with model predictive control can be a solution to achieve “seasoned driving.”

Key Outcomes

  • Research a control algorithm for automated driving to realize the “seasoned driving” of a skilled human driver
  • Rapidly design and test a model predictive controller using Model Predictive Control Toolbox
  • Develop a flexible and efficient development environment with MATLAB and Simulink

Toyota has been developing controls to enable automated driving systems to replicate “seasoned driving” by a skilled human driver. Model predictive control is used for generating an optimal driving trajectory while predicting the future vehicle behavior.

Toyota developed a simulation environment with Model Predictive Control Toolbox™ and efficiently explored the directions and challenges of MPC adoption through the research.
