It is a zip containing files matlab.man and matlab.man.txt (the .man run through nroff).

I haven't looked at that document but since that was prior to the incorporation of MathWorks in 1984, I'm guessing that's a version of the Historic MATLAB User's Guide Cleve showed in this blog post.
