can stand-alone versions made with the deployment tool be spread to the broad public if it is made with a research license of Matlab?

If you have the Compiler Toolbox in your license, then yes you can distribute the standalone executable to anyone and they can run it without paying MATLAB anything, they just need to download the free run-time library library from here: MATLAB Runtime Compiler Downloads
