Plz help me to understand how to simulate speckle noise ?

Realistic spatially correlated speckle noise in ultrasound images can be simulated by low-pass filtering a complex Gaussian random field and taking the magnitude of filtered output. Under different noise cases, the speckle noise with different covariance functions are introduced to the experiment. These are : Matern, spherical, rational quadratic and exponential covariance function.
