Image using circles and heat levels

I'm trying to generate an image like this one, from a matrix. Any idea about how to do it?

See the FAQ http://matlab.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#How_do_I_create_a_circle.3F. Simply get your center locations and use the code in the faq to burn values into an image. The values should correspond to whatever colors you want.
