Platform for dose verification and optimization: HDR interstitial brachytherapy TP for breast cancer
Pre-treatment dose verification is an important step in the quality assurance of high dose rate (HDR) interstitial brachytherapy treatment planning in accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI). We present a software platform to achieve this verification. It contains a database of 7 192Ir source models and is able to estimate the dose distribution using 2 different algorithms: TG43 and the Sievert Integral. Dosimetric criteria including conformity (COIN and CN), homogeneity (HI) parameters and dose volume histograms (DVH) were implemented. These parameters were interpreted and guidelines for dose acceptability were provided.
