We've all seen expressions like these before, originating from different areas of science and engineering. You know, the ones that are a little tedious and error prone to solve by hand. Well, they all have one thing in common, symbolic variables. A symbolic variable is a quantity that doesn't yet have an assigned value and is instead represented by a symbol like a letter.
And while some symbolic expressions are simple enough for a pencil and paper approach, some others, well, aren't. In this course, you'll learn the essentials of working with symbolic variables in MATLAB. Using Symbolic Math Toolbox, you'll create symbolic variables to manipulate, evaluate, and simplify symbolic expressions, equations and functions, all without the pencil and paper.
To get started, all you need is a web browser. You'll interact with the web-based version of MATLAB where you'll receive step-by-step instructions and instant feedback. You can also experiment and try things out on your own. You don't need to learn a lot of theory to start. But it will help if you know a little bit of MATLAB, just the basics.
If you've never used MATLAB before, it's easy to get started. And we recommend you first take MATLAB Onramp to get you up to speed quickly. This course should take about two hours to complete, but you can leave any time and come back later. And when you're done, you can download a shareable certificate of completion.
