Access OPC UA Process Data with OPC UA Explorer

Learn about the OPC UA Explorer app, which is included with Industrial Communication Toolbox™ and provides a graphical, no‑code interface in MATLAB^® for discovering, connecting to, and interacting with OPC UA servers.

The app is illustrated in the context of an OPC UA system that monitors and manages the temperature of a chiller in a simulated milk production facility. Data monitored with the app is used to diagnose and correct problems with maintaining the milk temperature within specified limits. Specifically, the app is used to select OPC UA nodes that represent the milk temperature and to export the data to MATLAB, where several days of historical data are analyzed to determine when temperature issues are observed.

Key capabilities of the OPC UA Explorer app are demonstrated, including connecting to OPC UA servers, browsing the server address space, inspecting node metadata, and plotting and monitoring selected OPC UA data. Automatic MATLAB script generation is also illustrated based on actions performed interactively in the app.
