How to prepare data set from an Image to find out number of clusters automatically?

I have images and want to use FCM for segmentation purpose.I want to count number of cluster automatically. Please suggest how to prepare data set from any image? I am planning for GAP CRITERIA for this but don't know how to make data set. Please help me. please explain using any image.
I am Newbie here.

Doing things on any image is usually very difficult. Please show an image as example. Also, I'm not an expert in image analysis, but maybe bwlabel might help you (I don't know if this uses the FCM algorithm).

What do you mean cluster? The image processing toolbox has functions for doing this (if you mean a cluster is when all adjacent pixels are above a threshold).

yes i used that function. But to use gap criteria i have to prepare data set right? Please let me know how to prepare that data set from any RGB image.
Better tell me how to use Gap criteria for automatic identification of number of cluster from any RGB image. Please tell me procedure or MATLAB code.
Why is the image still not attached, even after you saw Michael's comment? If you make us try to work "blind" then we will just not work. Make it easy for us to help you, not hard to help you.
