Driveline Design for Heavy Equipment with Simscape

Design driveline systems for heavy equipment with Simscape™. Connect CAD geometry or 1D elements into a schematic to represent systems containing gears, universal joints, and clutches.

Simscape helps you design heavy equipment. In this video, we're going to look at driveline systems. You can create models of driveline systems by connecting components in a schematic. These components can be imported from CAD software.

The driveline in our wheel loader model includes the transfer case, universal joints, differential gears, and in-wheel planetary gears. With components like these, you can model drive lines for an articulated chassis. A big value of Simscape is using simulation early in the development process, long before CAD models are available.

You can model this driveline with one-dimensional mechanical elements. This type of model can run 5 to 10 times faster than 3D multi-body models. Faster simulations make it easier to iterate on key design parameters. You can tune gear ratios and see their effect on torque levels in the system. You can download the model we have provided and easily adjust the fidelity level to meet your needs.
