Simulink and the DDS Support Package

Mark McBroom, MathWorks

This video first explains the software required for running the support package:

  • MATLAB®
  • Simulink®
  • RTI Connext DDS
  • The DDS support package for MATLAB

The video then explains how to use Simulink to communicate with another DDS participant. For demonstration purposes, Shapes Demo (which is provided by RTI Connext), is used to communicate with Simulink.  An interface definition language (IDL) file is imported into Simulink to create Simulink busses that align with each struct definition in the IDL file. Then you can start the RTI Connext Shapes demo.  Next, various Simulink models are used to create a DDS domain participant that publishes and subscribes to the DDS topic data exchanged with the RTI Connext Shapes demo. Finally, you can generate C code from one of the Simulink models. DDS APIs are identified in the resulting source code report. The Simulink examples used in this video are installed as part of the DDS support package.
