Terrain Modeling for Heavy Equipment with Simscape

Model terrain for testing heavy equipment with Simscape™. Import scanned 3D data to create realistic surfaces. Use MATLAB to create parametric slopes and obstacles. Model custom ground conditions.

Simscape helps you design heavy equipment. In this video, we're going to see how to model the terrain. Heavy equipment drives on a wide range of terrains. This includes hard, flat surfaces, such as a paved road, hard obstacles, or uneven surfaces, such as a field. Simscape can model vehicles driving on these surfaces with tracks, tires, or other custom systems.

Using MATLAB, we can import data and resample it to define an uneven surface. Parameterized surfaces can be created using MATLAB as well. This lets us define tests such as a tracked vehicle driving on a slope. Specific obstacles, such as curbs, rods, or bumps can be defined and placed using MATLAB variables. The surface conditions, such as how hard the terrain is, can be defined using standard or custom models. You can download the model we have provided and adapt the terrain to match your specific needs.
