Highlight/Raise parts of an image

Hi all,

I have an image positioned along xy plane (z=0). Now I have around 30 values of z. Depending upon the values of z, I would like to raise the pixels of the image at that point from the ground to that value of z (it may appear like a sinusoidal curve). Is it possible?? How should I do this??? Thanks in advance for any help.
