I am trying to read an excel file and extract the maximum and minimum values from the sheets. Any suggesions?

I am using xlsread to read the excel files. However, I am not sure how to extract only the maximum and minimum values from the data read.

You can read the workbook into a table:

t = readtable(filename);

Then find the max:

maxValue = max(t(:));

That is untested and assumes you have R2013b or later.

You will have to read the xls file first,import the data in workspace. Only then you will be able to get the max and min values.
