According to the windows task manager, Matlab consumes 430,000 K memory. This is without any functions running and variables cleared.(ie as at start up/idle) I added an extra tool box(plexim) recently. I think this caused the high memory consumption. As I remember steady state memory usage used to be less than 300,000k. I have now uninstalled plexim. Yet the memory consumption did not reduce at a noticeable magnitude. Furthermore in my r2012b the memory consumption is 235,000. Where as r2014b consumes 430,000k.
My questions are:
  1. Is the memory usage dependant on the system path, the physical size of the folders in search path. (or the number of folders)
  2. Is the memory usage dependant on the user defined variables
  3. Are they any tips to reduce memory consumption

First of all I'd start at searching in this forum:
It is very easy tio find out, that the memory consumption depends on the user defined variables. Simply define a large array and look what happens.
