How to use the PMLSM as a generator using a drive

Hello fellow Humans,
I saw that neat ee_pmlsm_drive example of a PMLSM being controlled as a motor.
I have little knowledge about electrical machines and their high end control, so I'm asking your help guys.
How can I use the controller from that example to be able to do velocity control of PMLSM as a generator ?
Thanks!
Cheers

Hello Joris,
the main challenge in modelling a closed loop controller in Simulation (regardless of tool) is that at the end of the day, you need to be able to design or tune at least part of the controller yourself. If you have no background on this, you should probably start with an example doing velocity control of a standard motor. From there you can look at the similarities between it and the PMLSM and beging to alter that example to your needs.
This block has links to examples: https://www.mathworks.com/help/physmod/sps/ref/velocitycontroller.html
There are also many youtube videos on motor control available, it would be beneficial to understand the theory before modifying the controller to meet your needs.
You will also need basic skills in Simulink and Simscape, which have free courses here: https://www.mathworks.com/learn/tutorials/simulink-onramp.html
Regards,
Joel

It was designed for the intent of controlling rotating machines, but you can right click it to look under the mask and see how the algorithm was implemented. Once you look at that and look at the some of the examples, it can give you a framework for how you would apply the same concepts to a linear machine.
