Left parenthesis suddenly invisible

I was working on a project and after running it suddenly I look at my .m file and all my left parentheses '(' are invisible. All functions now show up as function A); as opposed to function(A); This is happening on all .m files, but not .mlx files.
MATLAB is detecting that it's a left parenthesis as I don't get errors in the editor, but when compiling I get errors regarding lack of parentheses:
"Invalid expression. When calling a function or indexing a variable, use parentheses. Otherwise, check for
mismatched delimiters."
Has anyone experienced something like this before?
Thanks in advance.

Attach one of these files...
Is this true for all files; what about creating a new m-file and inserting a "(" into it?
Does the proper "(" appear on the command line and in other applications (if somehow got munged in the basic keycode table in your keyboard/bios)?
