I have downloaded the Matlab 30 day trial but when I try to activate it, I get this message:
Error 1,731: Activations are not allowed when License Management is set to MathWorks hosted license manager
Can someone please provide a solution!

Having this same issue on a 64-bit linux build - Ubuntu GNOME 15.10. Tried running it with sudo in case there were privilege issues, but to no avail. Would like to see how this runs on linux before purchasing... definitely need to be able to activate it before purchasing...

I had this issue until I installed the jre (java runtime environment)
For Linux:
sudo apt-get install default-jre

I am looking for a solution to this as well. I downloaded it when I was at my school library, and it worked. I went home, tried to use it again, and I get the same error message. What gives?

I had this problem. It was caused by UAC. I have to Run as Administrator to ve able activate without this error occuring. When running as Administrator activation forms looks different.

I am on Windows 7 and had this error. Restarted the PC and ran Matlab as Administrator and that fixed the problem, as noted above.

How do you run as administrator?

Solved this problem by following the tip in http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/252345#answer_198171
On Ubuntu 15.10, typing "sudo matlab" doesn't cut it. You gotta type "sudo su", password and then launch matlab with "matlab".
