MATLAB slow and buggy

Recently, I installde a new drive in my computer to expand storage. A lot of the data I work with in MATLAB is now in this new D drive. It seems MATLAB has slowed down significantly when working with said data (MATLAB is installed on the C drive). I expected this but not the extent where things take absurdly long and often lead to crashes.
Has anyone experienced this, and has reccomendations?

Did you change the drive letter? Sometime MATLAB caches the paths and look for files there. If you change the drive letter, it would spend time to look for files in old and invalid paths

Not in MATLAB, but the drive letter is C: D: etc... on windows system. You says the files were in C: (?) and now they are moved on D:
