R2015b and Java version

Hi, I am using R2015b and I downloaded java 1.8. But when I check in Matlab command window, my java is 1.7: >> version -java
ans =
Java 1.7.0_60-b19 with Oracle Corporation Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM mixed mode
I don't know why Matlab is not using my newly downloaded java 1.8.
Thanks,
Jennifer

You did not indicate which operating system you are using.
If you are using OS-X then the version of Java used is a legacy java, not the version installed in the operating system. Mine shows up as
Java 1.7.0_11-b21 with Oracle Corporation Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM mixed mode

I am also puzzled that my newly download java 1.8 is not being picked up. The Matlab R2015b picks up java 1.7.
