Scatplot function with gaussian distribution radius instead of uniform radius.

I'm simulating a large area pulsed laser deposition process using Matlab. To analyze the deposition distribution I'm using the scatplot function from File Exchange. This function calculates the point density by calculating how many points are in a certain radius of every point.
Say I insert a radius of 3cm, the function weighs a point 3cm away just as much as a point 1 mm away. Because the plasma cloud in a PLD system doesn't deposite in a uniform spot, this isn't correct. So I would like to weigh my points using a Gaussian distribution so I can approximate the plume in the PLD system. This way a point 2 cm away doesn't weigh as much as a point 1 cm away.
Can the scatplot function be used to achieve this? Are there better alternatives?
