what would be cause for below error

Looks like on of the input arguments has an unexpected data format. I suggested trying a code from the doc. Like a demo. If it runs, check the data format of all parameters step-by-step. If the demo does not run, there might be something wrong with your installation. It could be you have multiple 'trainlssvm' on the path. Try
which trainlssvm -all

Addendum: 'trainlssvm' appears to be not a MathWorks function. So you need to debug that function to understand.
