How to read specific value from a text file?

Hi, I have a text file that is neatly divided into two columns separated by tab. I can read each column fine, but I want to read the first value on the first column and keep it for later processing. You can see the text file attached and thanks in advance for your help!

fscanf( fid, '%f', [1 1] )

will do the job if you just want the first value.
