dct2 function in 5th line giving error

??? Error: File: dct2.m Line: 1 Column: 1 The input character is not valid in MATLAB statements or expressions. I have downloaded the packages required and the code was working previously on a linux machine.

F=dct2(x);

which -all dct2

firstly store the image with .tif extension and also give full path like..x=imread('E:\lena.tif');
