How does MATLAB calculate Settling time for systems that are not second order?

Regarding the time response analysis, using "Stepinfo" Matlab solve time response analysis for any transfer function, My question is HOW deos Matlab solve the settling time for systems that are not second order (for example a second order system having a zero)?.
