Star-delta starting of induction motor
Version 1.0.0 (45.2 KB) by
Abdelrahman Farghly
Star-Delta Starting is a popular method used to reduce the starting current of a three-phase induction motor
Basic Principle of Star-Delta Starter
- The motor initially starts with the stator windings connected in a star (Y) configuration.
- After a short time delay (usually 3–10 seconds), the connection is switched to a delta (Δ) configuration.
- This reduces the starting voltage and current by a factor of 1/√3 (about 58%) compared to direct-on-line (DOL) starting.
