Stator starting of squirrel cage induction motor
Version 1.0.0 (39.8 KB) by
Abdelrahman Farghly
Stator starting refers to methods that reduce the starting current and mechanical stress on a squirrel cage induction motor.
Why Use Stator Starting?
- Direct-on-line (DOL) starting applies full line voltage to the motor, which can result in:
- Very high inrush current (6–8 times full-load current)
- High starting torque (2–3 times full-load torque)
- Mechanical stress and voltage dips
To overcome this, various stator voltage control methods are used.
