This function smooths a Fourier amplitude spectrum

This function smooths the Fourier amplitude spectrum in groups that contain 1/2 of the remaining data until only 8 data points are left. The smoothing function and percent of each group to use in the smoothing window are set by the user. The variable group size allows good smoothing at large and small frequency values in loglog view.
