create own file extension name

Hi all, how can i create a file with my own extension filename? for examples:
i have a string variables word, Word='Matlab'
when i combine it with my own extension (let say .001) i want to get something like this, Word.001 (it will show: Matlab.001)
how can i do that?what function that can i use? thanks.

found it..i can use sprintf function.
W='Matlab'
s=sprintf('%s.001',W)
