Removing Zero Vectors in Quiver

I'm plotting a vector field using quiver and have a problem very similar to the one here:
That is, I have a lot of dots for zero vectors that I'd like to switch off. I have tried changing the zeros to NaN and to logical zeros (falses), but I'm still getting dots.
Does anyone know a general way to get quiver to stop the drawing dots for zero vectors?
Thanks your time and assistance, Will

And why the solution/link you posted doesn't work for you?
