retinal blood vessel segmentation

i got the retinal image output which is in binary form which has both the vessel and irregular shaped lesions in the image . can i get the output as having only the blood vessel by using bwhitmiss transform with linear structuring element to HIT and disk structuring to MISS

I don't know. Is that one of the published methods? Otherwise, just try it and see.
