Template search on time series data

Dear all, I want to perform a template search on time series data (recorded data with variable y-values over the time values (x-axis)) in order to identifiy certain repetetive motives. But so far I only found examples and discussion on image template. Can somebody please give me a hint how I can start to solve the problem? Thanks a lot! All the best, Peter
