Copying from Excel to Excel column by column

I have a 20 by 78 matrix in an Excel file and wish to copy this column by column to another Excel file (into separate sheet. I have tried using xlsread and xlswrite, and found that the first and second columns copies correctly into Sheet 1 & 2 but the last column is copied into Sheets 3 to 78. Can anyone help me out
