White text with black outline?

Hello,

I'd like to know if it is possible to give text an outline that directly surrounds the text. I know there is a way to draw a boxed outline around the "extent," but this is not what I want.

Any help would be appreciated!

It is not clear to me: Should the outline appear around any character, and then as a rectangle or following the characters shape? Or do you want a rectangle around the complete string, but as tight as possible?
