Can i run matlab script by pressing key/shortcut when matlab IS NOT IN FOCUS

Hi,
I would like to use Matlab for helping me automate some procedure.
I would like to create script that after i will mark some line in windows word document, the script will run by pressing some shortcut (for example F10/CTRL-H) and it will copy the marked line, than it will move the focus on the opened excel (in certian cell) and than will pass the line into the excel cell.
Than matlab move the focus on the word application again.
It seems that i know to do it all besides how to start matlab script (by pressing a shortcut) when MATLAB IS NOT ON FOCUS.
Any ideas?
