Matlab wont open, or opens and immediately closes, no errors.

My matlab 2020b will flash on the taskbar but never opens. We have tried reinstalling and there are no mathworks or matlab processes ever running on the PC to close. My IT administrator has givem me admin rights to try any solutions but thus far I have found none on here.

Which OS do you use? When did the problem start? What has happend before? What do you find in the event protocol? Did you restart the machine already?
I am using windows 10. It started earlier this week when my PC did an auto reboot due to company IT policy. Has not happened before. Not sure what you meanby even protocol. Yes we have done reboot, full shutdown, reinstall etc.
The "event viewer" shows a detailed log of problems under Windows.
I looked at the event viewer, there were no errors or warnings under Matlab or mathworks. It is isolated to my profile, as someone else from my company can login and use Matlab on my PC.
Did you try to recreate the preferences folder? It is found at e.g.: C:\Users\Jan\AppData\Roaming\MathWorks\MATLAB\R2018b . Rename the folder an try to start Matlab again.
Maybe your startup.m file contains the command quit or exit ?
I had no preferences in the 2020b folder. I made one and matlab still didnt open. I also have no startup.m file
Matlab cannot start without a preferences folder. This folder contains some files, which contain important data. You cannot simply create such a folder manually.

This has been resolved, my department had my license assigned to someone else, and I was using another users. Once I did a clean reinstall after the license issue no problems. Thanks for your help.
