Why do I receive Error 5013 - Unable to access services required to run MATLAB?

When I try to launch MATLAB, I get the following error:
Unable to access services required to run MATLAB (error 5013).
How do I resolve this?

To resolve this issue, try the following:

 

1. Restart MATLAB

If you have MATLAB open, close it and then open it again.

 

2. End MathWorks Service Host processes and Uninstall and reinstall the MathWorks Service Host

Follow the directions from the link below to end the service host process, then uninstall and reinstall the MathWorks Service Host.

3. Check for Operating System updates

There may be an issue with your operating system's libraries. Check your operating system for updates, then download and install those updates.

 

4. Check computer for viruses

There may be malicious software on your computer that is preventing MATLAB from behaving correctly. You may need to repair your system before MATLAB can be used.

 

5. Disable antivirus software

If your antivirus software has not been able to find any malicious software, it may be what is causing MATLAB to malfunction. Try disabling it and then launching MATLAB.

 

6. Contact Support

If these steps do not resolve your issue, please find your Service Host log files, contact MathWorks Support, and send your log files to us. If you do not know where those files might be, please view the link below:
