If the MEX file was written by you or downloaded externally, then the crash is potentially because of bugs in the MEX-file. Please debug the file or work with the author of the MEX-file and debug it, as suggested in the error log.

The code was attempting to use the third party package refprop version 9.0 or 8.1, which was for 2013 to 2016. The mex file used refpropm.mexw64 is not used as of refprop 9.1

There were changes in how matlab interfaces with mex files about R2018b that would have required recompiling the source code for use in r2021a.

I get confused between refprop and coolprop. One of the two of them no longer supports matlab directly and now needs to be called through the Python interface.
