How do i convert example model of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) Architecture into a Hybrid system of Battery-Ultracapacitor for Electric vehicle application?

Hello Joseph,
Since the ultracapacitor and the fuel cell are so different from one another, you may also wish to look into converting a pure BEV into a battery+ultracap hybrid by connecting the latter in parallel with the battery. We offer an ultracapacitor block in Simscape Electrical, of which you can find an example here.
Its parameterization may be done using design optimization, specifying a response requirement and getting MATLAB to back-calculate its characteristics based on a simulation of a specific test or driving condition. For example, getting the ultracapacitor to provide quick outbursts of power when needed, thus relieving the battery from having to provide a large amount of current in a short period of time.
Hope this helps.

@javier, Thank you for your answer. Connecting battery+ultracapacitor would require a DC-DC converter at both sides of battery and the ultracapacitor. I don't have experimental values for the battery, ultracapacitor and the converter. How do I use system design parameterization to find these values. Your reply is much appreciated.

Hi Joseph,
If you don't have measurement data done on your system, you may find information on datasheets. Some datasheet information is directly applicable to our blocks, and sometimes you need to simulate the conditions upon which the datasheet data was created and backcalculate the parameters using parameter estimation. For example, if you have a set of constant current voltage curves for a battery, you can calculate the internal resistance as R=delta(V)/delta(I) and enter this value in the block.
Please let me know how it goes.
Javier
