Need sptool in signal processing toolbox

I have been teaching a course GEOL525-Modeling Earth Signals and Systems at George Mason University making heavy use of the sptool in the Signal Processing Toolbox. Now you have replaced it with signalAnalyzer which is horrible, does not provide the careful and high quality analysis options with fft, welch, bt, multitapers, etc Why did you "deprecate" sptool? Where is Loren Shure, what did she say about this decision to remove sptool?

I'm sorry. You seem to think that we can answer you. Answers is a VOLUNTEER forum. We are not any sort of official MathWorks forum, where you can post a question like this, and get an answer from a source at the company.
As far as where is Loren, she retired. Sorry. Happily sunning herself on some beach I imagine. Well, I hope. But what did she say? I doubt it matters, and she may never have been asked about the change.
You can feel free to contact technical support directly, and rant and rage as much as you wish. But I would point out that many people hate change. They get used to something, learn how it works. Change happens, and the world is coming to an end. I recall times like that for myself. The world goes on, and eventually you realize the new version has some good features too.
One simple option is to just download the previous release of MATLAB. Nothing stops you from doing that, as long as you have a current license. No, you will not be able to use any new features of the more recent releases since. But that would be your choice.
John, thank you. I didn't know we could download previous releases, so that is what we will do. Now I am off to complain to the correct parties....best wishes to you!
Linda, in the new R2023b MATLAB you will find that Signal Anayzer now allows you to perform spectral analysis using Welch periodogram. You can specify window length, window types, number of FFT points and so on.
Hope this is helpful to you.
The default spectral estimator in Signal Analyzer is designed so that users can get good spectral estimates without a lot of effort setting parameters. It includes intelligent defaults that give good answers out of the box. But we understand that there are users out there that prefer the full control of the spectral estimate settings and that is why we now added them to the app.
Thanks
I agree with Linda.
sptool is not only offerring the tools but also centralising the data and filters. This eases the backup and storage.
Using the latest app, we will need to hop from Signal Analyzer to Filter Design, then back to Signal Analyzer again...
There should be an improved and enhanced version of sptool.
Thank you.
I have a similar experience. Sptool was a wonderful tool with built-in data, filter dedign tool and spectral analysis tool all in one place and have used it over many years in teaching Signal Processing and Speech Processing courses. Here is the case of Mathworks, trying to make progress using Apps have really taken a step back and in my mind. I hope they take a serious look and update the sptool GUI.
