Chinese characters showing up in UI

I'm seeing Chinese characters show up in several places in the UI, such as the code suggestions and the bottom of the screen. See pictured:

This is on a new installation of MATLAB 2023b on an Apple Silicon Mac. I've looked in the options, both in MATLAB and the system, and there's nothing that I kind find to change things back. What do I do?

Hey Ethan,

I understand that you are facing an issue where Chinese characters are being displayed in several places in the MATLAB UI.

Please try the following workaround that may resolve the issue:

Verify whether any other languages are listed in the "Language & Region" section within the system preferences on your Mac machine. Set "English" as the primary language in the "Language & Regions" settings. If any secondary languages are present, please remove them.
