Hello everyone,
MATLAB 2023b was installed on my laptop (Windows 8.1), it was working perfectly but when I have installed Update 4, I started having a problem with it: Whenever I try to start MATLAB I receive an error message (Please see the attached image below).
I have uninstalled my MATLAB 2023b and I have installed it for a second time but I keept receiving the same message.
Does anyone have an idea about a solution for this problem?
Is it possible to download MATLAB 2023b without Update 4? Because I think that this update is the cause of my problem.
Thank you, in advance, for your help.

Hi Karnal,
I understand that you are facing difficulty opening MATLAB R2023b after updating to Update 4, since its crashing and giving the “Fatal Error On Startup” message as shown in the image attached by you.
To download MATLAB R2023b without the Update 4 or roll back to a previous update, you would need to download the offline update installation files for a specific update depending on the release in this case R2023b and the position on your license. Please refer to the below documentation links to know more about offline update installation and the procedure to follow:
Additionally, the error that you are facing occurs when MATLAB get’s corrupted during the installation process. A resolution for this issue is to disable the security/antivirus software or allow exceptions for the MATLAB application and then perform a clean installation.

If the issue still persists, obtain the crash logs and contact the “Installation & Licensing Support Team”
Locate the crash dump files generated in MATLAB: https://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/answers/100816-how-do-i-locate-the-crash-dump-files-generated-by-matlab

Hope it helps,

Hi,
I have the same problem and found out that R2023b is not supported on Windows 8.1.
Other than using an older release of MATLAB or upgrading to a qualified version of Windows for the MATLAB release in question, there are no known workarounds.
