Why does the Matlab GUI / IDE freeze, or lockup, at launch after I've changed the IP address of my machine?

My organization uses fixed IP addresses. Occasionally I work on equipment in different parts of the facility that are on different subnets. So, when I take my laptop to a different area I have to change the statis IP address to get on the network. After changing the static IP the Matlab GUI/IDE locks up immediately after launching it. I can't do anything. The only thing I can do is kill the process.
Speculating that this is tied to a licensing oddity I've even tried to 're-activate' the license but that did not solve the problem.
Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to get Matlab past the constipating logjam?
Thanks.

Here's a head scratcher...
I also have VirtualBox on this machine. My Matlab license is not installed on a virtual machine and should have no relation to the presence of VirtualBox. I had disabled the 'VirtualBox Host-Only Network' adapter when I was reconfiguring the new static IP when I went to work on the other equipment on a separate subnet.
For some reason, Matlab's license manager doesn't like the changing of a machine's network topology. Meaning, when I reenabled the VirtualBox network adapter (that has nothing to do with Matlab) the problem went away.
Again, head scratcher...

It sounds as if you have a network license, and it sounds as if your MATLAB is attempting to contact the license server but that that is failing because (I hypothesize) the different subnets don't know how to talk to each other internally or else the network license server or router is blocking the appropriate port.

Thanks for the answer Walter.
However, I do not have a network license. I have an individual license that is directly installed on my laptop. (Sorry, should have specified this in the original posting.)
So, something else is going on. Other ideas?
