Why do I see multiple MATLAB Desktop issues when using unsupported Windows versions with MATLAB R2025a and later?

I am running MATLAB R2025a, R2025b, or a later release on Windows, and I experience multiple issues with the MATLAB Desktop. For example, I may be using Windows 10 LTSC or Windows Server 2019.
The issues can include:
  • The Workspace panel does not open
  • The current folder path does not update
  • Changes made using the Set Path button do not apply
  • The Files panel does not show folders or files
  • The Settings window does not load
  • Changes to the Desktop layout do not apply
  • The Address Bar does not load
  • MATLAB startup is slow or does not complete initialization
  • MATLAB cannot run scripts
Why do these issues occur, and how can I resolve them?

 Accepted Answer

In MATLAB R2025a and later, issues can occur when the MATLAB Desktop is run on unsupported Windows versions for that release, such as Windows 10 LTSC or Windows Server 2019. In these cases, Desktop components may fail to initialize correctly, leading to missing panels, unresponsive user interface elements, slow startup, or an incomplete MATLAB Desktop.
Supported Windows versions are defined per MATLAB release. For example, the supported Windows platforms for MATLAB R2025b are documented here:
Because supported platforms can change between releases, always verify your operating system against the system requirements for your specific MATLAB release.
Requirements for older MATLAB releases are available here:
The latest Windows requirements for current MATLAB releases are available here:
To resolve the issue, install and run MATLAB on a supported Windows version for your MATLAB release.
