Is there a better way to do current measurement?

I need to do current measurement using a current sensor. I am measuring ac current. The output of current sensor is a sinusoidal signal corresponding to the value AF ac current. The sinusoidal signal has a dc bias of 2.5v. I need to sample the values coming from the arduino ac port. So i plan to take say 10 values in one cycle, find the Max , find 10 such max values, take an average of these give it as output. Do the same for next measurement.

Is there a better to take samples, find max and average the values.
