How to use correlation with OCR?

Hi, i working on ANPR (automatic number plates recognition), so i'am stuck at recognition symbols from number plates. At this moment i,ve crop 6 symbols from number plates, so i need this recognition using OCR. But at first i think my need this 6 symbols put on vector and start corelation coeficient, but problem is how i can put symbols on vetor and start corelation. Maybe someone can help and explain steb by step. Thank you for you answers.
