Cannot save files in editor nor in Figure.

I downloaded and installed Matlab R2016a to my HP Omni 220 PC running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) with 6 GB of RAM. The file Save/Save As functionality is a bit quirky in that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Once, I opened a new function in the editor having the name "Untitled" in the tab. After completing the editing of the function I go to click the Save button and nothing happens. I go to the menu bar, click File/Save As... and once again nothing happens. I cannot save my new function. On another occasion I create a Figure (plot) and attempt to save the Figure. As with the case in the editor, when I attempt to save the Figure nothing happens, and once again I am unable to save my work.

I'm having the same issue in R2017a. When I create a new figure or script file, I cannot save it. If I create a blank text file through Windows Explorer, manually change it's extension to .m, and edit it in the matlab editor, then I can save it. But any files created through File->new (or new figures) cannot be saved if they don't already exist on the disk.
