removing a column from an array of char and cell type?

suppose i have a char matrix 'c' of size (256*8) all are 8 bit binary vaues. i want to remove the first column of the array and store the remaining (256*7) size matrix in another char matrix 'c1'. and how to do same thing for cell array Thank you for your help in advance.

Same, regardless of type:
c1 = c(:,2:end)
