How can i convert text to speech for kannada language ?

Hi everyone, I am working on the project online handwritten character recognition, now i want to convert the recognized character into speech.. how can i do it??..do i have to collect database of all character and convert it into .wav formate and store ? Thanks in advance..

I just glaced at some reference material. I could not tell from it whether the long vowels are written differently than the short vowels?

It looks like the writing system is more regular than English, but I see mention of some 20 strong regional dialects, and it was not clear in what I looked at to what extent that affects pronunciation or whether there is a base pronunciation that everyone would recognize even if they do not use it themselves?

There isn't a built-in function in MATLAB to do this. However, I found the following file exchange submissions that may be useful:
